Gunshots rang out on Washington Terrace in Bridgeport shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, police said.
Police said that upon arrival, they found Bridgeport resident Karla Bermudez, who was 23 weeks pregnant, with multiple times.
Her 23-year-old boyfriend was also shot. Both were transported to St. Vincent's
Medical Center, where Bermudez was pronounced dead and her boyfriend was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators noted that the boyfriend was “being uncooperative” at this time.
Bermudez did not live in the Washington Terrace residence, and had been staying with her boyfriend for the night.
The shooting came a day after a 24-year-old was found shot in the head at a busy Bridgeport intersection.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
Police said that it is believed that both victims were sleeping in bed when multiple gunshots were fired into the house, striking both of them.
Two other adults were in the home at the time of the shooting but were not injured.
Washington Terrace was temporarily closed during the police investigation into the shooting.
